PTUDC reliefHell on earth is the only way one can describe the situation in the flood affected areas of Pakistan. People are going hungry, children are being hit by disease, poor pregnant women are lying in the open air under the rain. In these conditions the comrades of the PTUDC are doing what they can with the meagre resources at hand to provide some relief. Please help these comrades with whatever you can!

After many hesitations and delays, not least because of the brutal assassination of Benazir Bhutto and hundreds of her supporters, the Pakistani parliamentary elections are scheduled to go ahead on 18 February. These elections are different to any other ever held in Pakistan. We have received an appeal by three candidates who are sponsored by the Pakistan Trade Union Defence Campaign and are standing on a clear socialist program. Manzoor Ahmed’s message from a police cell - To the workers of the world

Immediately upon being informed of Manzoor’s arrest we rang the comrades in Lahore. Whether through the inefficiency of the police, or because they were overwhelmed by the large number of arrests, they forgot to confiscate Manzoor’s mobile phone. Comrade Alan Woods was therefore able to speak to him in his cell, from which he delivered an inspiring message for the workers of the world, which we publish here.

Manzoor Ahmed Comrade Manzoor was arrested on a demonstration this morning, after leading many demonstrations throughout the Punjab. We have just received this message from Pakistan. Comrade Manzoor Ahmed, the Marxist MP is also president of the Pakistan Trade Union Defence Campaign.
