The Freightliner Five are part of an initial ten workers that were fired for walking off the job during a strike that was called off by the leadership of the UAW leadership.

The Freighliner Five are five of the ten that were not reinstated.  The failure to fight for the reinstatement of these five is an undermining of workers' solidarity.

Rank-and-file union members  and labor activists across the United States have rallied to support the Freightliner Five.  Read the article to find out how to support them.

We have received an appeal by three candidates who are sponsored by the Pakistan Trade Union Defence Campaign and are standing on a clear socialist program. Socialist CandidatesAn appeal to all readers and supporters of In Defence of Marxism

Dear comrades and friends,

After many hesitations and delays, not least because of the brutal assassination of Benazir Bhutto and hundreds of her supporters, the Pakistani parliamentary elections are scheduled to go ahead on 18 February. These elections are different to any other ever held in Pakistan. We have received an appeal by three candidates who are sponsored by the Pakistan Trade Union Defence Campaign and are standing on a clear socialist program.

They are standing in three of the most diverse areas of Pakistan - from the proletarian heartland of Karachi to the tribal areas of Waziristan - but their struggle for a vote against both Islamic fundamentalists and the stooges of imperialism has a widespread appeal.

All comrades must be put on alert for any immediate mobilization of support that may be requested.

The strike at the Ford plant in St. Petersburg is extremely symptomatic. After the collapse of the Russian economy in the 1990s now we have an upturn. With it comes also a renewed confidence of the working class. The victory of the Russian Ford workers would strengthen enormously the whole of the Russian working class. They need your help.

Adan MejiaIn recent months, there has been a renewed wave of repression against the revolutionary movement in Oaxaca with more than 60 APPO activists arrested on July 16 while participating in a peaceful protest. Four of them remain in prison, suffering interrogations and even torture.

Eight students were also arrested and sentenced under fabricated charges on August 7th.  Although a national and international campaign of protest has gotten these students released on bail, they face heavy fines, and we are raising donations to go toward the legal defense of these students and workers.

Mexico: Students arrested – urgent solidarity needed! Print E-mail

Tuesday, 14 August 2007

On Monday August 6th, a force of nearly 1000 police officers attacked a peaceful sit-in demonstration of students who were demanding access to university. The protest had been organised by the Movement of Non-Admitted Students, a campaign launched by the Committee in Defence of State Education - Committee of Student Struggle (CEDEP-CLEP http://cedep.militante.org ).

As a result of this brutal action by the authorities of the Federal District, eight students were arrested, four of them members of the Marxist Tendency Militante . Amongst them is Nahum Pérez Monroy, one of the main leaders of the CEDEP-CLEP and already the object of repression by the academic authorities in the past.
