On August 8th a group of some 30 workers and youth assembled in Providence at the Rhode Island State House to counter-protest the "Paul Revere Ride" (PRR), a racist motorcycle gang making a 48 state tour across the US to whip up fear and violence against immigrant workers.

On this day 25 years ago, 12,000 members of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization walked off the job, demanding higher pay and a reduction of the working week. 48 hours later, President Ronald Reagan fired 11,000 of them, using military personnel as scabs.

Catch 22Catch22, a punk/ska band of considerable popularity in the United States has just released a concept album on the life of Leon Trotsky entitled Permanent Revolution.  For many youth, listening to this album will be their introduction to Trotsky and his life.  We reproduce here a brief description of the album from the band’s website and an interview with Ryan from the band conducted by members of the Workers International League in the United States.

This morning we heard the tragic news of the death of comrade Ted Grant, just a few days after his 93rd birthday. The news was a great shock to all of us. Despite his age and the obvious deterioration of his condition in the last period, we had grown used to the idea that he would always be there, a permanent fixture amidst all the turbulence and change.
